The BIG APPLE Jam Sessions
The Big Apple Jam Sessions
A Workshop November 5 & 6 2016 Sat 10:30 am - 1:30 pm * Sun 1:30 - 4:30 pm // 6 h for 66 € /60 € at Swingspiration Studio // Körtestr. 10, 10967 Berlin-Kreuzberg Register here ➢➣➢ The routine "Big Apple", as danced by Whitey's Lindy Hoppers in the movie "Keep Punching", is a steady part of the nowadays Swing dance scene, just as the "Shim Sham" or the "Tranky Doo". But in comparison to those, the "Big Apple" is longer, faster (when danced to its original tune), and – partly – a little bit trickier. Which only makes it the top routine of them all! In this workshop we'll approach the routine in various ways and manners: I will show the sequences, on film as well as of course danced live – and you will learn and train on your own, or in a couple, or in the whole group; we'll mix things up to keep you alert. You will dance, and you will watch. You will have Call and Response as well as relay situations. And you will jam. This way, all parts of the routine will be conceived and internalized on various levels, so that they will stick to your brain and your body even after the workshop is over. The "What" and the "How" will be equally important in this workshop. Which means that you will have learned the array of this routine as well as have extensively explored that authentic jazzy feeling to dance it with. About the "level": You should be familiar with the most known Solo Jazz steps, as there are the "Apple Jack", the "Suzie Q" or the Charleston basic, so that you will be able to really focus on sequences and expression. Furthermore some training sessions are projected – we'll discuss the dates for it after the workshop, in case there are a few people interested.
